Team Associated RC28F Team Kit: A 1/28 Scale F1-Style Racer, Shipping in October
Team Associated has announced the RC28F Team Kit (part #20195), a Formula 1-inspired version of its 1/28 scale RC28 platform. It's a builder's kit aimed at small-scale on-road racing, with a machined aluminum chassis, an F1-style polycarbonate body with molded wings, and a suspension setup designed to be simple to tune.
What's New
The RC28F uses a new machined aluminum chassis and center bulkhead sized to fit 24 mm wide battery packs while leaving room for electronics. Up front is a fixed-arm front end inspired by F1 cars, with optional molded upper arms for adjusting caster and camber. Associated says the front bulkhead design allows quick upper-arm swaps without losing alignment.
Instead of a conventional side spring, the car uses torsion-style side links, with soft, medium, and hard versions included in the box. The kit also comes with an F1-style clear body and molded plastic wings.
Tuning Options
Pitch, roll, and droop can be adjusted through a threaded aluminum center shock, spring collars, and side damper tubes. The two-piece rear pod has adjustable roll center inserts, and axle height can be changed with included Factory Team carbon fiber shims. A gear differential is included, and Associated notes that other aftermarket diff options will also fit. The kit's V2 white wheels accept optional front wheel flanges for tuning steering feel.
Associated lists the car at 176 mm (6.93 in) long with a 115 mm (4.53 in) wheelbase. It is a 2WD electric on-road kit and is compatible with Reedy's 1/28 scale electronics.
Price and Availability
Associated's own store lists the RC28F Team Kit at $269.99 on pre-order (with a listed MSRP of $404.99) and says it ships in October. Some coverage rounds the street price to $269. What You'll Need
This is a full kit that must be assembled, and it does not include electronics. To complete it you'll need a motor, ESC, servo, battery, charger, and a radio with receiver. Associated recommends its Reedy micro electronics, including the SONIC 1525 micro brushless motors (2500Kv, 3500Kv, or 4500Kv), Reedy 1:28 stick LiPo packs, the RS0305A micro servo, and the Blackbox 300R micro ESC.
