Axial SCX30 Jeep CJ-7: A Licensed 1/30 Mini Crawler in Two Versions
Axial has added a licensed Jeep CJ-7 to the SCX30 line, its 1/30 scale ready-to-run mini crawler platform. It is offered in two versions, a Crawler version and a Classic version, each at $99.99 according to RC Car Action and current retailer listings.
What's new
The CJ-7 is an officially licensed Jeep body on the SCX30 chassis. The Crawler version uses a GenRight ABS hard body with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/T tires on Raceline Daytona wheels.
The Classic version has an ABS hard body with a removable hard top and chrome-plated accents, along with Goodyear Wrangler Boulder MT tires on American Racing AR23 wheels. Item numbers listed are AXI-3273T1 (red), AXI-3273T2 (green) and AXI-3273T3 (yellow). The yellow Laredo Limited Edition is reported as exclusive to HorizonHobby.com while supplies last.
Hardware and features
The truck is 4WD with full ball bearings in the drivetrain, a shorter than standard wheelbase, and ramped axle housings with high-clearance links. An angled skid plate, forward weight bias and low-mounted electronics are meant to help with climbing and with sliding over obstacles. The transmission is easy to reach, and optional SCX24 gears are listed as compatible for different ratios.
The body is clipless for quick access to the chassis and battery. Front and rear LEDs are included, and the interior has molded detail such as shifters, a cup holder, an armrest and a steering wheel. Tires are soft compound with factory foam inserts.
Price and availability
The price is $99.99 for each version, and RC Saver's tracked listing for the CJ-7 SCX30 shows the same figure. A firm general release date was not stated in the sources we read, so check the retailer for current stock, since some listings have appeared as pre-order.
What you'll need
It is ready to run. The box includes a Spektrum SLT2 2.4GHz transmitter with throttle limiting at 50 percent or 75 percent, a Spektrum 2S LiPo battery, a 0.5A USB charger and 4 AA batteries for the transmitter. RC Car Action states nothing else is needed.
